2008 $50 Singapore Silver Proof - Inaugural F1 Night Grand Prix
The Monetary Authority of Singapore released a $50 Silver Proof Coin, 20 grams of 999 fine silver with full colour application. Authorised mintage of 6,000 pieces.
The coin was released to commemorate the inaugural Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix that was held from 26 to 28 September 2008.
The Singapore event was the first night race in F1 history and the first street race in Asia. The design captures the spectacular mood of dazzling lights and vibrancy of the night race and landmarks in the Marina area that forms part of the street circuit. Also featured on the coin are the two most recognisable icons in auto racing, namely, a F1 car at full throttle and the winning chequered flag. The obverse of the coin bears the Singapore Arms with the year-date 2008.
A must have collectors item for Formula 1 fans!
